The deep rooted Rape Culture!
Being a free lance corporate trainer by profession, I travel a lot. And Delhi being a capital gave me lot of business due to which I had to travel quite often there. I even stayed in Delhi NCR region for a year as I was consulting for one of the aviation brand.
I remember when I told my parents for the first time that I am supposed to travel to Delhi next day. My parents were all worried and scared their 23 year old there. Even assured them all the time that I will be safe. But my parents’ didn’t stop worrying and they would call me after every 2 hours to check on me.
I was just unable to understand that I have stayed in a different country for 5 years they never got this worried. Then why in my own country they aren’t feeling their daughter is safe. And soon, a news flash got notified on my phone which stated another rape in the ‘ Capital’ this head line answered all the questions I had about my parents.
Somehow I didn’t buy the entire story which was published by that news channel. So I started looking upon certain data, new articles, blogs and websites to know that Women are safest and
Men are the ones who really need help, and real empowerment.
While I was searching for the truth I got stumbled upon NCW’s statement on Fake rape cases being filed. I also spoke to two Men Rights Activists, Jyoti Tiwari and Virag Dhulia, to understand more about the atrocities on men.
While speaking to them I realised that the problem is deep rooted so I decided to in detail layer by layer. I decided to know about Anti rape law first.
As per the law “whoever commits this crime is liable to get fined or get imprisoned for 7 years minimum or may be punished with both”. Now this whoever is further defined as a male police officer, a corporate employee, a relative or a stranger.
So legally it is a rape only when it is a male coercing a female for sex and not vice versa.
Even National commission Woman and other independent organisations have collected data basis that they have agreed that there are countable fake rape cases.
This data is collected by NCRB (National Crime Bureau) records which collects primary information from police stations based on FIR. (First information Report). This datum is never segregated further to nature of: sexual assault, the nexus between the victim and the alleged, evidences, witnesses and most importantly medical reports of the victim.
In many instances courts identified the reasons of filing a false complaint which majorly included:
Young Love; elopement of young couples and girl’s parents filing a rape case against the boy. Marriage Promise
Breach of promise to marry. It is when a woman complains that her consent for sex was obtained under a false marriage promise. Later following which man refused to marry. Courts have found out only 12 cases out of 100 as relevant in this category so far. Some of the cases were also filed to take revenge against the complainant or to extort money and property of the alleged rapist.
Dimapur Mob lynching the infamous lynching murdered a family man on a meagre name of giving justice to a girl who alleged rape charges on him just for getting money.
We all believe in hanging the rapist, chopping their private parts, change our profile picture seeking justice for many.
but little do we know that if the case is 100% genuine.
Due to many platforms and forums, we all are exposed to it which also influences us rather than guiding us.
So before we read any report, try to analyse the story and it’s loop holes and then form an opinion.
