Pramod Kumar is a seasoned executive with 35+ years of experience in the power sector. His expertise cuts across multiple domains including engineering, commercial, policy, quality assurance and project management. He has worked on various coal based, gas based, diesel based thermal power stations, solar and wind projects. He has been the Secretary to C6 committee (Indian Chapter) of CIGRE on Distributed Generation for four years. He has been  the chairman of ET-34 committee of BIS responsible for the formulation of standards on various instrument transformers.

As Executive Director (Commercial) in India\'s largest power company NTPC, he headed the 125-member pan-India commercial organization, responsible for billing and realization of ~Rs.90,000 Cr annually, driving formulation and execution of commercial strategy and policies for the company and negotiating long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with State Discoms and Private Discoms. He was the nterface to Regulatory Commission, Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority and States for tariff, dispute resolution, policy advocacy and other related matters. Drove maximization of sale of power from NTPC stations, customer relationship management, market intelligence, and sale of unrequisitioned power in power exchange.

He was also the Project Head of ~Rs. 12,000 Cr. greenfield project in Darlipalli, Odisha (2x800 MW capacity) where he led 200-member project team in end-to-end execution of the project within deadlines and costs. Areas of supervision included land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement of project-affected stakeholders, awarding and managing various contracts, sequential supply and erection of various interdependent facilities, financial prudence, vendor and contractor management with special focus on environment and safety.

As Head of Quality Assurance & Inspection function of NTPC, he was responsible for ensuring high quality standards for all the equipment by finalization and execution of Quality Plan for all power plant equipment, incorporation of manufacturing standard and in factory inspection in  specifications, development of new vendors for cost optimization through enhanced competition, through vendor approvals and managing various multiple locations region inspection offices.

He has led NTPC\'s 80-member Electrical Engineering department. He shouldered concept to commissioning engineering of all electrical installations of multiple power plants including Generators, Switchyards, Transformers, Unit Protection Systems, Motors, Electrical Distribution System, Standby Power back up through DC, ESP, Auxiliary Power Supply system, Generator Bus Duct, HT & LT Switchgears and Variable Frequency Drives. He drove incorporation of details in feasibility reports, project design memorandums and detailed engineering of various electrical systems for thermal coal, gas and hydro plants. Conducted power system studies for power evacuation, transmission system planning and R&M engineering of electrical systems.  Led bid evaluation and contract finalization.

Pramod Kumar graduated from NIT Bhopal (previously Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal) in Electrical Engineering in 1981.
