Major General (Retd) Sunil Kumar was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in June 1981 and retired in April 2017 after a distinguished career spanning 36 years in the Army. In a highly diverse and variegated profile during his service career, he has seen operational action in trouble-torn Kashmir Valley during the years 1993-1995 when insurgency was at its peak. He successfully commanded a BOFORS Artillery Regiment as a Commanding Officer during OP VIJAY at Kargil in 1999 culminating in the famous victories at Tiger Hill and Tololing. He also commanded the same BOFORS Artillery Regiment during OP PARAKRAM in the Desert Sector after its mobilization along with the entire Indian Army subsequent to the abortive attack on Indian Parliament in 2001. During this tenure, he was also conferred the National Gaurav Award for his outstanding contribution as head of NCC in the State of Delhi in 2016 by Minister in Vigyan Bhawan on behalf of the NGO Indian Braveheart. He is a motivational speaker on the theme of youth and nation-building, having conducted a TED Talk, a TV show and an FM radio show on the subject besides conducting regular talks and seminars in various educational institutes and universities. He has attained numerous academic qualifications to include BSc, MA in Public Administration, MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies, Masters in Management Sciences and M. Phil.
